The Paed Tidt or 8 direction Sak Yant is one of the most popular Sak Yant tattoo’s as it has a powerful meaning behind it as far as a Buddhist Protection spells goes. It has all encompassing strength pulled from 8 differennt directions protecting the person who wears the tattoo from all sides. It was first written by the Khmers during the peak of the Khmer empire that ruled all South East asia and is still practised by the Cambodian people and Thai’s as they share the same Buddhist beliefs as steaming from the joining of the Khmer and Siamese empires centuries ago. The 8 directions of power protect those who wear this tattoo from evil that can come from any side including above and underneath you these are seen to be demons that can effect your life, thoughts and behaviour. The 8 groups of 3 ovals represent the 8 different versions of Buddha. The Buddha is seen in 8 different ways throughout his life and each of these versions are capture within this 8 direction Sak Yant prayer. The 9 Point Sak Yant Tattoo Buddha’s Gao Yord Meaning
The Gao Yord is one of the most powerful Yantra Prayers in Khmer Traditional Tattoo Designs and is a sacred Buddhist tattoo with very wide ranging powers of protection and is one of the most popular and well known the Sak Yant tattoo designs. Many people will choose the Gao Yord as the center tattoo on the upper back bellow the neck this is because of its universal powers. The higher Sak Yant Tattoo’s are put on the body the more respect is show to the prayer tattoo. It is a Tattoo that is composed of a series of prayers designed for protection and good luck throughout life.

The design of the Gao Yord represents the 9 peaks of the mythical mountain of the Gods, Mount Meru part of Hindu Mythology. In Khmer Tattooing there is a cross over of Religious stories from Hinduism to Buddhism as these tattoo prayers began to be written during a period of time when Hinduism was the dominant religion of the Khmer Empire that ruled over South East Asia. The 9 point Sak Yant is part of this Hindu mythology, Mount Meru is the abode of the Lord Brahma as well as other Deities. In Buddhist mythology, Mount Meru is known as Sumeru. Because this sacred mountain shape is also important to Buddhism the tattoo design is kept in the mountain shape. But it now includes Buddhist shapes in the prayer. The 9 points are called Unalome’s and represent the path to enlightenment through prayer.

The set of 3 ovals are a representation of the Lord Buddha and this grouping of 3 ovals can be seen in many other Sak Yant designs. The Gao Yord Yant has 9 Buddhas represented, with each Buddha bestowing special powers or spells. In some versions of the Gao Yord, there is a Mantra or Katha tattooed at the base of the design. The script used is Khom, an ancient Khmer script, and gives the abbreviation for the names of these nine Buddhas as follows;
A, Sang, Wi, Su, Loe, Pu, Sa, Pu, Pa

Maeta Ma Hah Niyom: With this blessing you will be treated by others with great loving kindness and compassion which will improve your popularity and help you to gain preferential treatment.
Klaeoklad: This benefit ensures that the wearer will not suffer serious injury.
Chana Satru: The ability to defeat the enemy.
Ma Hah Amnat: This will give the wearer great power, authority and control over other people.
Awk Seuk: A willingness to go to war or to fight battles for those who have your loyalty and the desire to fight for what is right.
Kong Kra Phan: This will provide Magical protection and invincibility.
Oopatae: This will ensure that in whatever enterprise or business activities the wearer is involved in they will have the ability to do the work correctly and ensures that everything will run smoothly.
Noon Chataa: This benefit will improve your destiny, fate
Ma Hah Lap: This will bring great good fortune and luck

Making A Tattoo Night Club After Covid-19

In Siem Reap Cambodia Covid-19 has hit the Pub Street Area hard, it is a city that relies almost totally on the Tourist Trade in South East Asia attracting millions of travellers normally. The Covid-19 situation that has stop international travel has crushed tourism and travel world wide. As the world slowly comes back to life after this period of time Sovannaphum Tattoo was given an opportunity to open a second studio and begin to help create something that has not been done before. To create a Tattoo Studio fused with a Night Club. To many people this may sound crazy but I feel this time is the best time to set up a Tattoo Studio inside a Night Club waiting for the Boom of tourism to come back to Siem Reap Cambodia. The Xbar Night Club is very popular with the western travel community and because Xbar is the last Night Club to close in Siem Reap every night it attracts all the Backpacker pub crawls and party people who come to Pub Street for a good time. In Australia where I come from this concept would be impossible to create putting a Tattoo Studio inside a Night Club could not be done, but here the same rules do not apply so we have a chance to create something that has not been done before. It will take some time to rebuild the trade in Pub Street and build a name in this city but I am committed to creating something that has not been done before. I want to be part of the Pub Street boom and the revival of the city of Siem Reap after Covid-19, and take tattoo art to a new level in the city. I came to Cambodia with a dream to bring an Australia style Tattoo Studio and quality tattoo art to this part of the world. I want Sovannaphum Tattoo to leave it’s mark on travellers to Siem Reap and leave a mark on Pub Street as it bounces back from this world wide crisis. Carlo the owner of Xbar Night Club is also Australian and has the same vision for his club. We both see that Covid-19 was not the end of the way the world functions but the beginning in an amazing new chapter that will give rise to new ideas and new business opportunities for those who have survived this period of time.
